Upcoming Events and Announcements
English Class Enrollment is Open
Registration is still open for the winter semester of our free English classes, available at Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels! We are especially looking for Intermediate and Advanced level students. Learn more and register here!
Conversation and Digital Literacy Classes
We are offering both free conversation classes and computer literacy classes to anyone who wants to improve their conversational and digital skills in English. Conversation classes take place in Sunset Park on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons – register at bit.ly/rhconversationclass. Computer literacy classes take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights – register at bit.ly/rhcomputerlit. We hope you join us!
Get Help
Have you faced a traumatic incident? Experiencing feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or anxiety? Would you like to speak with someone? RaisingHealth offers FREE mental health therapy in English, Spanish, and Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese! If you’re uninsured or underinsured and seeking mental health assistance, fill out this interest form.

We raised nearly $11,000 through our end of year fundraising campaign, supporting the sustainment and expansion of our holistic social services for immigrant families in preparation for the incoming Trump administration’s harmful immigration, public health, and education agendas. Volunteer Opportunities
RaisingHealth is seeking committed volunteers who want to make a difference in the Sunset Park community! Volunteer activities include assisting with community outreach, food distributions, health fairs, and translation/interpretation. Sign up here!
We are also looking for individuals to join our Community Care Team, a small group of volunteers that are dedicated to providing safety services for our community. All of our Community Care volunteers receive safety trainings on upstander intervention and de-escalation. We would love to offer safety accompaniment services to community members who may be experiencing anxiety traveling through the neighborhood on their own. If you are interested in joining us, fill out our interest form!

Free Blood Pressure Tests
RaisingHealth is offering a FREE blood pressure test with our community health partners on a WALK-IN basis. Get yours checked at our office (5306 3rd Ave, 2 Floor, Brooklyn) on Fridays from 10am-6pm or Saturdays from 10am-12pm. For more information, please call 212-256-9036.

December Snapshots
Winter Wonderland
Our annual Winter Wonderland event brought nearly 400 families together to celebrate the holidays and spread joy and warmth as we enter the winter season! Hundreds of children picked out age- and culturally appropriate toys and got them wrapped by our team; we handed out hot meals thanks to local partner Send Chinatown Love and grocery bags to each family; we provided health screenings and resources in collaboration with local partners; and we enjoyed performances by local artists and RaisingHealth's own staff! Huge thank you to NYU Langone for sponsoring the event and to our 50+ volunteers for their support.
ESOL Students on the Move
As part of our newly expanded workforce development program, our ESOL students embarked on two special field trips in December! At the Sunset Park branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, they signed up for library cards and learned about the library’s many resources, including for learning English and job preparation. They also toured the Borough of Manhattan Community College and learned about its many offerings and opportunities for students to earn higher degrees and dream big professionally.
Flu Clinics
Our free flu clinics with Duane Reade Pharmacy have helped over 90 immigrant community members get vaccinated to protect themselves from serious sickness from the flu. Stay tuned for our next flu clinic date!
Food Distribution
We provided bags of fresh, culturally-appropriate produce and pantry staples to 926 community members during our food distributions held in December!

Flu Season
Flu season is ongoing! It is crucial to get your flu shot as soon as you can to help prevent serious illness from the flu. COVID-19 is also still circulating around NYC. We highly recommend you get both a flu shot and the recently updated COVID vaccine this fall!

Laboratory testing for COVID-19 remains low to no cost at NYC Health+Hospitals locations. If you are an NYC Health+Hospitals patient, you can schedule a COVID test by calling 1-844-NYC-4NYC. Private insurance may no longer reimburse you when you purchase at-home test kits. For now, oral antiviral medicines, including Paxlovid, remain free. Find a location on the COVID-19 Test to Treat Locator or call 212-COVID-19.
Asylum Seeker Resource Navigation Network
If you entered the U.S. after January 1, 2022, and currently live in New York, you are eligible for services and referrals by the Asylum Seeker Resource Navigation Network, which was recently launched by the City. Visit this site to learn more and make an appointment, conducted in your preferred language.
NYIC’s Community Toolkit
The New York Immigration Coaltion’s (NYIC) New York State Community Toolkit is an all-in-one resource guide for community members, partners, and allies. It is updated regularly based on changing laws and policies and connects immigrant New Yorkers with resources across the state. It is published in English, Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, French, Karen, Nepali, Somali, Creole, Polish, and Ukrainian. Download the toolkit here.

Capturas de diciembre
País de las maravillas invernales
¡Nuestro evento anual Winter Wonderland reunió a casi 400 familias para celebrar las fiestas y difundir alegría y calidez a medida que entramos en la temporada de invierno! Estudiantes de ESOL en movimiento
Como parte de nuestro programa de desarrollo de la fuerza laboral recientemente ampliado, nuestros estudiantes de ESOL se embarcaron en dos excursiones especiales en diciembre.
