Hewett Chiu focuses on driving health systems transformations and integration of care models for underserved, vulnerable, and marginalized populations. He is CEO at RaisingHealth Partners, which he started in 2010 as a result of losing his mother to cancer. Prior, he was Executive Director at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene where he oversaw the city’s public mental health and primary care clinical integration initiative – the largest operation of its kind in the United States. He has served as Chief Executive Officer of Coral Health, which leverages artificial intelligence to drive early detection of chronic conditions in a culturally fluent way. He was also Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Fern Health, developing multidisciplinary digital health solutions based on pain neuroscience to manage persistent pain and combat the opioid epidemic.
An educator at heart with over a decade of experience as a cardiac life support instructor for medical professionals, Hewett has practiced as an EMS provider and holds current and/or previous certifications as an Emergency Cardiovascular Care faculty member from the American Heart Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, Hewett was a New York State Medical Skills Examiner, where he approved practical skills of candidates applying for their emergency medical services licenses; served as a Council Member of the AHA Scientific Council on Clinical Cardiology from 2014 to 2015; and has been an Associate Member of The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network since 2010. Hewett received his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and his MPA in Health Law & Finance from New York University. He has further completed post-graduate training in Corporate Finance & Restructurings at Harvard University. Currently, Hewett is an adjunct Associate Professor of Health Administration at NYU Wagner teaching healthcare and public sector management.
In addition, Hewett is an expert in emergency management, holding 22 federal certifications from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and also holds specialty certifications in Crisis Preparedness & Prevention, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hospitals Emergency Management, and Forensic Epidemiology from West Virginia University. As a scholar of healthcare system transformations, Hewett is certified by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement in Healthcare Leadership, Patient Safety, and Healthcare Quality Improvement. He is a Fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Management, a Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a Member of the American Health Lawyers Association in its Business Law & Governance Practice Group. In 2015, Hewett was named a Margaret E. Mahoney Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. Hewett also sits on the Board and co-Chairs the Mentorship Committee of the Greater New York Dollars for Scholars, affiliated with Scholarship America.
For his work on improving public health and education, Hewett was awarded The President’s Volunteer Service Award – Gold by President George W. Bush in 2008, was honored as a UnitedHealth Scholar in 2009, given the New York Guard Coin for Outstanding Performance by the Command Sergeant Major in 2010, named keynote speaker in Congress on healthcare reform in 2009 and on infectious disease prevention in 2011, awarded Special Congressional Recognition by the United States Congress in 2014, profiled as one of the 10 Influential Asian Americans in the United States by Wells Fargo in 2015, awarded New York State Assembly Citation and New York City Council Citation in 2016 and 2019, and had a video feature produced about his work in 2018 by APIA Scholars, which premiered at the Ronald Reagan Federal Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., among other honors.
